BREACH MACCHIONE

The BREACH_MACCHIONE software allows for peak discharge estimation of small earthfill dam breaching at dams in the Canton of Zurich due to overtopping based on the dam-breach model according to Macchione (2008).

The BREACH MACCHIONE software has been replaced by the BASEbreach software. The BASEbreach software provides a suite of dam failure parameter models including all features of BREACH MACCHIONE. Further, the model setup and comparison in BASEbreach are supported by an intuitive graphical user interface.

The software was developed within a project on behalf of the AWEL (Office of Waste, Water, Energy and Air) of the Canton of Zurich (VAW, 2011). The model is calibrated for the situation of small earthfill dams in the Canton of Zurich. The recommended scope of application is shown in the User Manual (VAW, 2011b). For the moment the software and user manual is available only in German. BREACH_MACCHIONE is distributed over the Internet in binary form (the source code remains closed). It is available at no charge.

Download and Install

The software BREACH_MACCHIONE can be downloaded for free.
Make sure you install the software in a folder where you have write permission (preferably on something like D:\Data and not on C:\Program Files). This way it is possible to write output files for your simulation results later.

Requirements

The software BREACH_MACCHIONE is tested on Windows XP and Windows 7 but might work as well on other Windows operating systems.
